Handball
In handball, whether it is the indoor or the variant outdoor variety, there are two teams of seven players each. There is a goalkeeper and six outfield players on each team. The players pass a ball, throwing it into the goal of the other team. Each match consists of two half-hours, and the team that scores more goals wins. The modern hand ball court is about 40/20 metres, and the goal is at the centre of both ends. Only the goal keeper is allowed around a six metre zone. The goal scorer needs to throw the ball from outside the zone. Alternatively they can do this while diving into the zone.

History
Medieval France and Middle Ages Greenland have documented games like hand ball. Denmark, Germany, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Ukraine too had similar games in the 19th century. But the game as it is seen today evolved in northern Europe at the end of the 19th century. The first set of rules, written ones, was published by a Danish gym teacher, and Olympic medallist Holger Nielsen in 1906. In 1917, Germans Max Heiser, Karl Schelenz, and Erich Konigh published the modern set of rules. Karl Schelenz bettered these rules after 1919. These rules were first opbserved in an international game for men in 1925 in a match between Germany and Belgium and for women in 1930, the match being between Germany and Austria. The International Handball Federation was formed in 1946.

Olympics

The 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin saw the first handball match as a men’s event. Scandinavian countries continued to celebrate handball for the next decade. The Munich Olympics of 1972 saw the sport re-emerging as team handball. The Women's team came in at the 1976 Summer Olympics.
