Tennis can be played as a singles game, or a doubles game. Each player uses a gutted racquet to strike a hollow, felt-covered, rubber ball covered over a net into the opponent's court. The best game is when the ball is played so that the opponent cannot play a good return.

Tennis is a sport that can be played all ages and anyone holding a racquet, even wheelchair users. The origin of modern tennis was in Birmingham, in late 19th century in the form of "lawn tennis”. It’s closely connected to other field games like croquet, bowls and real tennis as it was played once.

History
The first of the tennis games is attributed to a British army officer Major Walter Clopton Wingfield who designed a ball game known as ‘sticky’ for the amusement of his guests in December 1873. He even produced a boxed set including a net, poles, racquets, balls and of course the rules of the game, and furthermore, marketed it across the world.  This was in 1874, and when you consider that the Wimbledon Championships were first played in London in 1877, you guess the pace of its popularity charts.

Olympics
Tennis was right there as a part of the Summer Olympics program at the inaugural 1896 games, but dropped after 1924 due to disagreements between the International Tennis Federation and the IOC. It returned in 1984 as an under-21 demo event. 1988 saw tennis return as a full medal event at Seoul.

A tennis player who wins an Olympic gold medal and all four Grand Slam events is said to have won a Golden Slam.
